The chapter began Tuesday night, when Burdick defeated candidate Don Scott in the race to replace Lee Roberts, who after a decade as Bedford’s supervisor, announced she was stepping down last spring.

Burdick, who currently is a councilman on the town board, knows he has big shoes to fill, but is excited to have the chance.

“I am grateful to the voters of Bedford for electing me, thank those who voted for me and offer to those who did not, that I will work hard for you and the entire community,” he said.

Burdick said Scott was a worthy opponent and is also looking forward to working with his future town board peers. “I commend Don Scott for an impressive campaign and for his gracious call to me yesterday on my victory,” he said.

“I also congratulate my colleague, Francis Corcoran, on his re-election and my soon-to-be new colleague, Mary Beth Kass, for her election. I look forward to working with them and am confident that we will work together in the bipartisan and collegial fashion that has been serving Bedford so well,” he said.

Burdick added that he looks forward utilizing his experience as a town board member to help hold down taxes for residents while also preserving and protecting the rural character of Bedford.
