ARMONK, N.Y. Kerry Kennedys toxicology results show that a generic form of the sleep medication Ambien was in her bloodstream at the time of the July 13 car accident in which she allegedly struck a tractor trailer on I-684 and drove away, The New York Times reported.
Kennedy has pleaded not guilty to the charge of driving with ability impaired by drugs.
According to The Times, when North Castle police found her allegedly slumped over the wheel on the side of Route 22, the former wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo told them she may have confused her thyroid medication, which she takes every morning, with her sleep med because the bottles were next to each other on the shelf.
The toxicology tests were administered five hours after the accident, which occurred just after 8 a.m., The Times reported, and results were turned over to the District Attorneys office Tuesday.
At her July 17 arraignment, Kennedy told reporters that neurological testing performed by her doctors showed that the accident may have been caused by a partial seizure, which might have been triggered by an old head injury, The Times reported.
