Minor Injuries Reported In Two-Vehicle Collision In Katonah

KATONAH, N.Y. -- Two vehicles were involved in a collision at the intersection of Routes 35 and 22 on Friday evening. However, the occupants only had minor injuries and did not go to the hospital, Katonah Fire Chief Dean Pappas said.

The injuries, Pappas said, included cuts, bumps and bruises.

The collision is believed to have happened, according to Pappas, when a vehicle on the eastbound side of Route 35 was trying to make a left-hand turn to the northbound side of Route 22.

“That individual had the green light but not the green directional arrow,” Pappas said.

One vehicle rolled over multiple times, the chief noted.

Pappas was asked by Daily Voice about vehicle collisions that look severe but where those involved do not sustain major injuries.

“A lot of the cars are just a lot safer now," he said. "So we’re seeing these accidents where it looks really horrific but a lot of times people come out unscathed, fortunately.”

The fire department was dispatched at 7:27 p.m. and was finished by around 8 p.m., according to Pappas. During that time, access to the northern side of Route 22 was blocked off, while traffic from other parts of the intersection was directed by police and firefighters.

Also responding on site were Bedford Police, the Katonah Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps (KBHVAC) and Westchester EMS.
