Man Killed, Wife Injured In Bedford Motorcycle Crash

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- A Greenwich, Conn., man was killed, and his wife critically injured during a motorcycle crash in Bedford on Sunday, Bedford Police said.

Frank and Joanne Verni, were riding on a Vespa motorcycle at 11:30 a.m. when they crashed into a tree on Old Post Road in the area of Stone Hill Road.

Responding officers located a Vespa motorcycle off the side of the road and two critically inured persons nearby. Both were transported to Westchester County Medical Center by Bedford Fire Department Ambulance and Lewisboro Volunteer Ambulance Corps, along with several Westchester County Medics. 

The driver of the bike, Frank Verni, 66, was later pronounced dead at the hospital. The passenger, Joanne Verni, 55, is listed in critical condition. 

Preliminary investigation shows the motorcycle was traveling north when the driver lost control and struck a tree off the northbound lane, police said. Both riders were wearing helmets. Investigation is ongoing.
