PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- A man has been charged in connection with the 1995 death of his wife who resided in Brewster, according to an announcement from New York State Police, which also noted the death of his daughter that year.

Robert Honsch, a 70-year-old resident of Dalton, Ohio, is accused of killing Marcia Honsch, whose body was found by a hiker on Oct. 6, 1995 in Tolland State Forest in Tolland, Mass. The body of his daughter, Elizabeth Honsch, was found on Sept. 28, 1995 in a parking area near a New Britain, Conn. strip mall.

Identification of the two was only discovered this year after New York State Police took a report from a Virginia Beach, Va., woman. A subsequent joint investigation involved state police and authorities from New Britain and Hampden County, Mass.

Marcia Honsch was 53 when she died and Elizabeth Honsch was 16, according to state police.

State Police also disclosed that Robert Honsch had been living under an assumed name and lived with a new wife and children. Multiple media outlets report that Honsch’s assumed named was Robert Tyree.

Investigators from the three jurisdictions then traveled to Ohio and conducted an interview with Honsch. Additionally, a search was made and evidence was obtained, according to state police. Hosnch was linked to his wife due to an examination of items located at the site where her body was found.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Department in Wooster, Ohio, has Honsch in custody, according to state police. His arraignment could be on Thursday and state police mention that there will be arrangements to bring him to Massachusetts. There, he will be arraigned in Westfield District Court, according to police.

The state police announcement was a reiteration of an arrest announcement made by Hampden County District Attorney James C. Orenstein. A press release regarding the arrest is available here.
