Police Sgt. Michael Armistead confirmed that the department has launched an investigation into reports that the Santa at Poundridge Nurseries has been inappropriate with children, though he cautioned that people shouldn’t get swept up in what they read on social media before the facts come out.

Despite rumors, police could not confirm any suspects in the case as the investigation continues.

On Wednesday, an employee at Poundridge Nurseries said she was advised not to comment on the story while the investigation is ongoing; although on Facebook, Poundridge Nurseries addressed the situation.

“We take your concerns very seriously and have reported them to the proper authorities,” they posted. “Meanwhile, we will have a different Santa Claus worker for the remainder of the holiday season.”

Armistead said that an investigation is well underway, and that Police Chief David Ryan will evaluate all the information passed along his desk and disseminate to the community when the investigation yields information.

Ryan told Daily Voice he has even taken to Facebook himself to encourage those who may have information to contact him.
