Salimbene's wife, Marie, remains in the hospital with burns sustained during the fire at 174 Scarsdale Boulevard that started around 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Scarsdale Fire Chief James Seymour.

When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the residence was fully involved in fire and smoke, Seymour said.

There were reports of one person unaccounted for, so the department mounted an aggressive interior attack, and encountered heavy smoke, fire and heat, as well as a considerable amount of belongings and debris within the residence, he added.

Marie Salimbene was treated at the scene and transported to the hospital by Scarsdale Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The Scarsdale Fire Department was still on the scene, throughout the day Monday, continuing to suppress the fire, and searching John Salimbene.

The Scarsdale Fire Department received mutual aid assistance from the Fairview, Hartsdale, Greenville, White Plains, Yonkers, Pelham, Larchmont, Eastchester and New Rochelle fire departments.

Assisting with the investigation, which is continuing, are the Westchester County Cause and Origin Team, the Scarsdale Police Department and the Westchester County Police Forensic Investigations Unit.
