Car Stop In Bedford Leads To Heroin Charges

BEDFORD, N.Y. — A Brewster man was charged with driving while under the influence of drugs and heroin possession Monday, according to the New York State Police in Somers.

Stephen F. Webber, 62, was stopped on Interstate 684 in Bedford at 12:45 p.m. and accused of failing to stay in his lane and driving on the shoulder, police said.

An investigation found that Webber had eight small wax envelopes of heroin in his possession, according to State Police.

He was charged with driving while impaired by drugs and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

He was arraigned in the Town of Somers Court and released on his own recognizance. Webber is scheduled to appear in the Town of Bedford Court on Thursday Sept. 27.
