Bruin Spotted In Peekskill Proceeds To Swim Toward Bear Mountain

PEEKSKILL, N.Y. -- A bear was seen enjoying the Hudson River Monday night.

After the bear was spotted near the Charles Point Marina at about 8 p.m., police cleared the scene about an hour later when the bear swam back across the river toward, appropriately enough, Bear Mountain State Park, according to multiple reports.

Bear sightings are at a record level in the Hudson Valley and state officials are tracking data on vehicle accidents involving bears. A bear was killed near the Taconic Parkway in Hopewell Junction on May 2.
