BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The Bedford Fire Junior Corps recently joined junior members of the Katonah-Bedford Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps for an EMS-themed patient packaging drill.
The volunteers heard an overview of the new Rescue 44 before separating into four teams, each headed by an EMT, to perform patient packaging, according to a release. Participants worked on collar sizing and application skills, use of the spider straps and speed clips and supine packaging and "standing takedown" techniques commonly used in the field, according to th release.
"The joint drill was a great success, and we certainly look forward to working with KBHVAC in the future," representatives said. "A big 'thank you' to Firefighter/EMT Peter Meineck and his fellow KBHVAC members for helping to set up and run the drill."
The BFD Junior Corps members meet and train every other Sunday for several hours, covering a wide range of topics in both the EMS and fire sectors. Those between the ages of 15 and 17 who are interested are encouraged to apply for the program at the Bedford Fire Department website.
