BEDFORD, N.Y. — Bedford Police released a sketch Thursday of a bearded man in his 50s wanted in the May 17 sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman on the nature trails behind St. Matthew's Episcopal Church.

The woman told police she was walking her dog in the 25-acre, church-owned property known as Ketchum Preserve at around 5 p.m. when the man attacked her.

The suspect is wanted for questioning, police said. At the time of the incident, Bedford Police Lt. Jeff Dickan said police were considering the possibility that the suspect may repeat the offense, or have done so already.

"We don't necessarily know if this was an isolated incident or not. So in any of these isolated areas, we're asking people to walk with a friend," he said.

Police said the victim described her attacker as white male with salt and pepper hair combed from front to back with no part, and a short, neatly groomed beard. The suspect was wearing a heather grey T-shirt, faded blue jeans and black shoes.

Police ask anyone who recognizes the man in the sketch and has information about him to contact the Detective Bureau at (914) 241-3111.
