BEDFORD, N.Y.— A 19-year-old woman was charged with stealing more than $4,000 worth of property from a woman whose children she was babysitting, according to Bedford police.

A resident of Hook Road reported two rings and an iPod Touch missing from her home on July 18, police said. She called again on July 30 to tell police she believed her babysitter had taken the items, police said.

On Monday morning at the Bedford police station in Bedford Hills, the Bedford Hills woman admitted to taking the $4,000 ring and the iPod Touch worth $400, but not the second, $1,000 ring. None of the property has been recovered so far, according to police.

The woman was charged with third-degree grand larceny, a felony, and released to her mother. Court information was not immediately available.

The following item was also reported in the Bedford Police blotter:

An officer was on patrol on Harris Road near Babbitt Road in Bedford Hills around 2:20 a.m. when he saw a maroon jeep with a defective left tail light, according to police.

The officer pulled the car over on Pine Road, police said, and smelled alcohol while interviewing the driver, identified as Jesse S. Goffeney, 24.

Goffeney failed field sobriety tests, and, back at police headquarters, his blood alcohol content was measured at .12 percent, police said.

He was charged driving while intoxicated and driving with a blood alcohol content of over .08 percent, both misdemeanors. He was also charged with a motor vehicle equipment violation.

Goffeney was released on his own recognizance to appear in Bedford Town Court on Aug. 30.
