BEDFORD, N.Y. – Brian Prato, owner of the B and B Auto Body Shop on Railroad Avenue, Bedford, has been charged with multiple counts of fraud and larceny relating to repairs made to three New York State Police vehicles.

The New York State Department of Financial Services and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office said that Prato estimated and billed for new parts installed in the vehicles, but substituted used parts.

Investigations, including interviews and examination of paperwork, showed that Prato submitted bills to insurance companies based upon providing new parts, said the New York State Police Auto Theft Unit.

Prato was charged with third and fourth degree insurance fraud, third degree attempted grand larceny, fourth degree grand larceny and first degree scheme to defraud, all felonies. He was also charged with fifth degree insurance fraud and attempted petit larceny, both misdemeanors.

Prato was arraigned in Bedford Town Court and released on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to reappear in court at 7 p.m. Oct. 25
