At Bedford Hills Prison, Parenting May Come With A Price

BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. -- At a state prison in Bedford Hills, moms and their babies are both behind bars, according to a report by lohud.com.

The Bedford Hills Correctional Facility has had a nursery since 1901. While some say it allows locked-up moms and their babies to bond, others said growing up behind bars could be harmful to the children.

Responses throughout the years to the set-up at the maximum-security Bedford Hills Correctional Facility have been mixed, with some saying it allows mother and baby to bond, while others say it could be damaging to the children, the lohud.com report said.

In most prisons, babies born while their moms are locked up have to be given to a relative or foster care, the lohud.com story said.
