Of the four Bedford fires under investigation since the beginning of the year -- three in Katonah and one in Bedford Hills -- this case remains open along with the house fire at 109 Stone Bridge Road in Bedford Hills.
The blaze at Hook Road began at about 3 a.m., and nearly 50 firefighters raced to battle the flames that ultimately consumed the four-bedroom, five-bath house, which sits on 8.4 acres.
The incident was "suspicious in nature," the Bedford Police Department said. It is currently classified as arson.
The 4,400-square-foot house is owned by Eliza Reed Bolen, stepdaughter of fashion designer Oscar de la Renta, along with her husband, Alexander Lytton Bolen, who is the CEO of de la Renta’s company.
It had been listed for sale by Bedford's Ginnel Real Estate since March 2012, most recently at an asking price of $1.75 million.
The cause of the three-alarm fire in a house at Stone Bridge Lane on the night of Jan. 8 is still unknown, police said. The blaze badly damaged the 7,500-square-foot house.
The Jan. 15 fire that destroyed the second floor of a 40-by-30-foot wood-frame home at 23 South Road in Katonah was an accidental electrical fire, police said.
The fire in a house on Cross River Road in Katonah on Jan. 31 has been declared an accidental electrical fire by police. The Cause and Origin team determined the fire was caused by a power surge during a storm, when a large tree took down wires across from the house, officials said.
