BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The Bedford Police Department adds a Utility Terrain Vehicle to its fleet, thanks to a donation by an anonymous Bedford resident.
The Polaris Ranger 6x6 will be used to access emergencies in traverse terrain which wouldn't be accessible in traditional vehicles.
There are approximately 100 linear miles of Bedford Riding Lanes Association riding trails and 1300 acres of sanctuary property within the town. Prior to having the UTV option, officers would have to respond on foot, increasing response time.
This vehicle will be available for mutual aid to emergency services in neighboring jurisdictions.
