Opinion: This Democrat Is Voting For Republicans In Bedford

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- I am disgusted with what is happening in Washington, D.C.

And, yes, for this most recent bout of dangerous brinkmanship, I blame the Republican Party. I am a Democrat – not a happy one, but I still find the Democratic Party represents my core values and vision for our wonderful country.

In the Bedford town elections in November, I am going to vote a straight Republican ticket. As a small business owner in Katonah for more than 12 years, a former co-president of the Katonah Chamber of Commerce, and a resident who raised both of my sons here, I care more about putting the right people in charge than I do about putting in the right party.

I know each of the members of the current Bedford slate personally. They each have a long history of working successfully in local organizations and local government – protecting and enhancing the things about Bedford and Katonah that are important to me.

They have been involved, they are core longtime leaders in our community, and I know they will continue the strong stewardship of Bedford we've seen under the leadership of Supervisor Lee Roberts (another Republican whom I hold in the highest esteem).

I’m not going to let my feelings about the actions in Washington cause me to make the wrong decision about our local elections. As a staunch Democrat, I am voting Republican in Bedford this November – supporting Don Scott for Town Supervisor, Mary Beth Kass and Francis Corcoran for Town Board, Lisbeth “Boo” Fumagalli for Town Clerk and Erik Jacobsen for Town Justice.
