Dear neighbors, less than a year ago I was elected as your newest Town Board member.
Thank you to nearly 3,000 of you who elected me. I also want thank all of you who welcomed me at your door as we walked the neighborhoods of Bedford over the past three summers.
Believe it or not, it is a lot of fun. We have some amazing people in this town. Since then, I have been working hard for you.
I have introduced legislation to give you more control over your local elections, which resulted in a referendum on this year’s ballot. I urge you to vote yes.
I am spearheading new local legislation that will give our town more tools to clean up abandoned “zombie” homes that are a blight on some of our neighborhoods and drag down our property values.
I have championed improvements in our budget process that will help us address our long term structural deficit. (I was for staying under the tax cap before it became fashionable.)
I love this job because I love local government. Thomas Jefferson said that the government closest to the people governs best. I couldn’t agree more. At the local level you can actually get things done.
Being a successful town board member isn’t just about showing up twice a month -- perfect attendance is a given. Being a successful board member is about getting results for you. I have done that in the past and I’m doing that now.
I ask for your vote on Tuesday because I want to keep working for you. We’re just getting started.
Don Scott, Bedford town councilman
