I want to extend an overdue thank you to Supervisor Chris Burdick on the magnificent job he did in helping to stop the expansion of CVS in Katonah.
While others played important roles in supporting this initiative, it is my opinion that Supervisor Burdick was key.
I recently spoke to him about this David vs Goliath victory and he explained some of the details, some of which I was unaware. The passionate citizens of Katonah picketed, attended the town meetings, wrote letters and signed petitions; however, Burdick had a plan -- a strategy that required precision -- and it had to happen quietly, smoothly and quickly. On the night of the final decision, the proceedings functioned like a well-oiled machine with Burdick at the controls.
To my surprise and delight, the decision was "so ordered" and then it was over. There was a well-deserved, extended standing ovation -- and many tears -- for all the players who helped the little hamlet beat the conglomerate. Letting in one giant likely would have led to others and the town was able to stop that from happening, thus preserving what draws us all to love -- and to remain in -- our little paradise in northern Westchester.
For this reason and for his expertise in leadership, I want to say, thank you Chris Burdick. We may not see eye-to-eye on some things but on preserving the integrity of our homeland, we are on the exact same page.
