To the editor:

Thanks to the diligent work of our crews in the Town’s Highway Department, we’ve nearly completed patching the potholes we’ve come across and those which have been brought to our attention (and thanks for letting us know).

Please let us know if you feel we’ve overlooked any. You can call the Town’s Pothole Hotline at 666-7669 or feel free to contact me at 914-666-6530 or Supervisor@bedfordny.gov.

We’re also bringing to the attention of the New York State Department of Transportation potholes on state roads, such as Routes 22, 117, 121, 137 and 172. They’ve gotten to a fair number, though we’ve spotted some remaining potholes. You can help by calling the NYS DOT’s pothole hotline at 1-800-POTHOLE (1-800-768-4653) to report potholes. Feel free to let us know as well as we’ve been maintaining a list.

As to paving town roads, we’re completing the 2014 paving list with paving to take place this summer (a few may carry over into the fall). At the Town Board’s June 3 meeting, we approved over $1.1 million for 2014 paving, or nearly a 30 percent increase over last year. This will go a long way to address the damage from the rough winter, but we’ll have more to do in 2015.

As to paving state and county roads (Long Ridge Road and Greenwich Road), we’re asking the respective DOTs to give their roads running through Bedford the attention needed. We’ll keep you posted.

Chris Burdick,

Bedford Town Supervisor
