My name is Bryan Maidana. I am a Freshman MUG (Mariner Under Guidance) at SUNY Maritime, at this upcoming election in our local area we have many incumbents for elected positions. Coming from Fox Lane High School I always volunteered my time to give back to my great community. One way I did that was through the Bedford Police Explorers program. Which then lead me to become an intern at the Bedford Court House. Through this internship I have learned a lot about the law and about life, much of this experience is due to the Honorable Judge Erik Jacobsen. For the past two and a half years I have worked under Erik’s supervision. Giving my time on a weekly basis Thursdays at criminal court, Wednesdays at traffic court, and Mondays at civil court.

Seeing how Erik handles all situations has really inspired me to view many things with an open mind. Erik has taught me a lot over the two years, he is a very open minded person when a case is presented before him, he never jumps to a conclusion and takes both sides of an argument to make his decision.  Make no mistake when justice needs to be served he does what he was appointed to do, but he is a big believer in the youth. He understands youth mess up and they shouldn’t have to ruin their whole lives for one mistake. He tries his best to help those in need and works with those who want his help.

He has helped me in making decisions with life such as college and what to major in. So far it has been the best choice of my life being at SUNY Maritime in the regiment of cadets going for my U.S. Merchant Mariners License. Erik is great role model, friend, judge and lawyer. The town of Bedford has only benefited and will continue to benefit with him remaining in office. What really stands out to me is his character and diligence. When he is the judge in office he spends tremendous hours going over cases and figuring out what the best option for both parties are. Coming in early and staying late going past the hours I’m sure he is required to do.

He goes the extra mile with his work and it goes highly unnoticed. He is the one you want serving justice for this great town.  He has established programs for the court that were never there before him, he gives his best effort in everything. He is a man of the town that he stands for.

What I ask the community of Bedford to do this Nov. 5, is make the right choice and vote for Erik Jacobsen. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.  He believes in the system, helps those in need, serves justice when it needs to be served and most of all is the man you want in court. For those college students as I will be doing, please send in your absentee ballots for Erik.

Every vote counts!
