Michael Piazza, 92, Former Bedford Postal Worker

MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. – Michael J. Piazza, a lifelong Mount Kisco resident, died unexpectedly Monday, Dec. 3. He was 92.

He was born April 11, 1920, in Valhalla to Victor and Augusta Alba Piazza. A musician, Piazza played the trombone and was a member of the 355th Army Service Forces Band at Camp Barkeley, Tex., during World War II.

After the war, he toured the U.S. as a member of the Charlie Spivack Orchestra before returning to Mount Kisco to marry Angela Filippini, who predeceased him. He worked for the Mount Kisco and Bedford Hills Post Offices and played music professionally until he was 90 years old.

Piazza is survived by two sons, John (Leoni) and Michael (Maureen) Jr.; three grandchildren; a nephew and three nieces. He was predeceased by a sister, Rita (Anthony) Salvati; and brother, Joseph (Anne).

Services will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cassidy-Flynn Funeral Home in Mount Kisco. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Mount Kisco. Burial with full military honors by the Army and American Legion Post 136 of Mount Kisco will be held at St. Francis Cemetery.
