Maria Mossa, 95, Of Bedford

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Maria Mossa of Bedford died Sept. 15 at her home. She was 95. 

Born March 26, 1917, in Sannicandro di Bari, Italy, she was the daughter of Giacomo and Cesarea Simone. She immigrated to Canada with her husband and daughter in 1951 and then to the U.S. in 1960. 

Mossa lived in Manhattan, the Bronx, Pleasantville and finally, in Bedford. At different times, she owned and operated several businesses with her husband, daughter and son-in-law, including a butcher shop in Toronto and an Italian grocery in the Bronx. 

Her greatest passions in life were cooking, sewing, dressmaking, crocheting, knitting, attending church and doting over her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Mossa is survived by her husband, Vito; a daughter, Rose Racanelli, of Bedford; four grandsons; two great granddaughters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Tuesday, at Ballard-Durand Funeral Home in White Plains. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at St. Patrick's Church in Armonk.
