Dr. Arnold M. Wald, M.D., 89, Of Bedford, Radiation Oncologist

BEDFORD, N.Y. - Dr. Arnold M. Wald, M.D., a 30 year resident of Bedford, died Oct. 21. He was 89.

Dr. Wald was a graduate of the Townsend Harris High School in New York City and he received his BA and MD from the NYU College of Medicine. He served in both the U.S. Army (1943 to 1946) and the U.S. Navy (1949-1951). While in the Navy, he attained the rank of lieutenant and for one year he was the senior medical officer on a destroyer. He served one year in the USNH in St. Albans, NY.

Dr. Wald was a Radiation Oncologist and was the co-founder and director of Rye Radiology for over 30 years and was chairman emeritus of the Cancer Support Team of Westchester, which he co-founded in 1978, and was a volunteer pilot for Angel Flight of New England.

Dr. Wald is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth (O'Connor) Wald; children, Catherine, Adrienne, Richard, Lois, Dan, David and Elizabeth; stepchildren, MaryBeth, Kathleen, Richard and Thomas; eight grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren; brother, Dr. Franklin Wald, M.D.; and three nieces.

Calling hours are Wednesday, Oct 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Clark Associates Funeral Home, 4 Woods Bridge Road, Katonah. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 at The Middle Patent Cemetery, Banksville.
