Dennis Morgan, Former NFL Player From Westchester, Dies At 63

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. – Dennis "Strawberry'" Morgan, a lifelong resident of White Plains, died on Oct. 25 of a heart attack. He was 63.

Morgan was born on June 26, 1952 in White Plains to Henrietta and Charles Morgan Sr.

He graduated from White Plains High School, playing football on the undefeated team of 1969 and still holds the national high school record for the 40-yard dash at 4.3 seconds.

Morgan went on to graduate from Western Illinois University with a degree in physical education.

He played two years in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles, and still holds the Cowboys' record for longest punt return at 98 yards, which stood as the NFL record for 12 years.

Morgan went on to serve in the Army and received an honorable discharge.

He was predeceased by his parents, and is survived by his brothers; Troy Sr. of Stamford, Conn., and Charles, sister Alice of South Carolina, nieces Alysia and Alexandria, and nephew Troy Jr.

Services were handled by McMahon, Lyon & Hartnett Funeral Home, and interment was at Kensico Cemetery.
