Broaddus Johnson Jr., 93, Bedford Resident

BEDFORD, N.Y. – Broaddus Johnson Jr., a longtime resident of Bedford, died Tuesday, Jan. 26. He was 93.

Known by family and friends as "Speed," he served as a lieutenant in the Army Air Force and later graduated from Yale University in 1948. He worked in advertising sales at NBC in New York for most of his business career. Later he followed his calling and was ordained as a deacon in the Episcopal Church at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in 1992.

He served at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Bedford and in surrounding communities.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kate DeForest Johnson; children W. Macy Johnson, Andrew B. Johnson and Kate Knapp Johnson and their families, including seven grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Matthew's Church in Bedford.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Matthew's Episcopal Church.
