The change is needed because the property, which includes several buildings along Railroad Avenue, is in the town's Light Industrial zone, which does not allow housing.
The proposed change was discussed at the Bedford Town Board's meeting on Tuesday.
Currently, according to Bedford Director of Planning Jeff Osterman, one of Antioch's buildings has four housing units while another has one. However, the uses are grandfathered in because they predate the zoning. The text change is needed in order to change the makeup of the units.
Antioch's old church building is also among its structures. Antioch is now located at the intersection of Main and Church streets.
The town has four residential uses in its code, according to Osterman. They include single-family homes, two-family homes, townhouses and and multifamily housing.
Antioch has not finalized how many housing units it will seek for its proposal, Osterman explained, and the text change would allow for all four residential types as uses in the zone.
Town officials also discussed the possibility of applying for a state grant to help with the project. The program has a pool of $4.1 million, according to Osterman.
Supervisor Chris Burdick said that the deadline to apply for the grant is Oct. 23. Funding from Westchester County, which is part of its 2009 federal affordable-housing settlement, is also available, Osterman told Daily Voice.
The text change, which is up the town board to decide on, is one of several approvals needed for the housing, according to Burdick. The supervisor cited approval from the planning board as another.
