BEDFORD HILLS, N.Y. -- The decision by a panel of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office against protecting the Washington Redskins' trademark due to the team name being offensive to American Indians was heavily covered this week in the media.

In Bedford Hills, Hudson Valley residents who work in the hamlet reacted to the decision.

Don Fernandez, who lives in Cortlandt Manor, called the a decision an “appropriate one.” Fernandez, who attended Roy C. Ketchum High School in Wappingers Falls, recalled a controversy there over "Indians" being used as a name.

Dan Voudren, who lives in Pawling, felt that if a trademark is offensive to a group then it should be looked at.
