SOUTHEAST, N.Y. -- A woman was found dead after jumping from the Interstate 84 overpass in Southeast late Tuesday morning, according to Capt. William McNamara of the Putnam County Sheriff's Department.
The unidentified woman jumped from a section of the overpass that is above a roadway that doubles as Routes 6, 202 and 22, according to McNamara.
Preliminary reports suggest, based on a witness, that the woman jumped intentionally, McNamara said. However, it has not been officially determined whether the woman's fall was a suicide or an accident, he added.
The sheriff's department received a call at around 10:40 a.m. on Tuesday reporting that someone jumped from the overpass, McNamara explained. He added that patrols were dispatched and the woman's body was recovered.
McNamara declined to identify the woman, citing the need to inform her next of kin.
