Westchester's Rockefellers Say No to Oil

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- Westchester County's legendary Rockefeller family announced its philanthropic arm, The Rockefeller Brothers Fund, will begin divesting itself from fossil fuel-based organizations, according to The New York Times.

The Rockefeller family built its fortune from John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil, but is part of a growing initiative to move investments away from the very thing that made the family its money. The family said it will pull close to $50 billion from portfolios and consider more environmentally friendly options, The New York Times reported.
