Despite the constant news of violent events splashed across the news each day, more than 20 municipalities in New York ranked as some of the safest including Hudson Valley's Lewisboro (ranked No. 1), Rye, Suffern, Briarcliff Manor and more, according to Safewise.com.
In the 20 cities listed some of the major factors contributing to their safety was the fact that neighbors looked out for and cared about each other, said Safewise.com.
In addition, all of the top 20 reported 13 or less violent crimes, and only one reported a murder, said Safewise.
A look at the FBI’s most recent crime report shows that 80 percent of the cities had no incidents of rape and over 50 percent reported no robberies, added Safewise.com.
Safewise identified the safest cities by reviewing the most recent FBI Crime Report statistics from 2014, along with population data and eliminated all cities with fewer than 8,000 residents.
