Few songs evoke summer better than those of the Beach Boys. The original California dreamers are celebrating their 50-plus year collaboration with a new album and a national tour, which is coming to the Westchester County Center in White Plains May 15.
The Beach Boys were born in 1961 in southern California. Their harmony-heavy, lighthearted tunes mostly about surfing, girls and cars were hugely popular in the United States throughout the 1960s. Their style caught on across the pond as well, as the Beatles looked to and borrowed from the Beach Boys. (Back in the USSR was the lads famous rejoinder to the song, California Girls.)
The surviving members of the venerable group, Brian Wilson, Mike Love and Al Jardine, have joined forces with longtime members Bruce Johnstone and David Marks (who was part of the band at its inception).
The bands setbacks, notably Wilson's emotional and psychological struggles, as well as the deaths of members Dennis and Carl Wilson, proved fractious to the group. Their current album and tour has brought them together again, much to the delight of fans across the county.
