WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. – Two cars caught fire at the Mobil Gas Station on the Hutchinson River Parkway near Exit 25 Tuesday morning after a 70-year-old man having a diabetic emergency rear-ended a car pumping gas, according to Kieran O'Leary of the Westchester County Police Department.

Neither driver was injured from the fire, but both were taken to a nearby hospital. The car that was hit was pushed forward into another car, and a fourth car was hit by a falling gas pump damaged by the fire, O’Leary said.

There were six people in total injured, including a husband and wife in one of the cars. None of the injuries are life-threatening and a total of three have been taken a nearby hospital, O'Leary said.

The Hutchinson River Parkway was closed in both directions from Exit 23 to 25 for less than an hour before reopening.

The 70-year-old's car failed to slow down as it entered the gas station while traveling southbound on the Hutchinson River Parkway. O’Leary said it wasn’t an obscene speed, but enough to cause damage. He slammed into a vehicle that had a gas pump in its car, triggering a chain reaction, multi-vehicle accident. The two cars involved in the initial accident were completely destroyed and charred.

The other two cars were both damaged and taken away on a car lift.
