The truck, which was destroyed, struck the overpass between exits 11E and 11W north of the Cross County Parkway, police said.

Currently, southbound traffic is backing up past Tuckahoe Road on the Sprain Brook Parkway for several miles.

No injuries were reported, police said.

The lane is expected to be closed for "a while" as crews work to remove the appliances, and then cut up and remove the tractor-trailer, police said.

Authorities are directing drivers to use the Saw Mill Parkway, the Hutchinson Parkway, and I-87 as alternatives.

The driver, who has not been identified, will be issued summonses for having a commercial vehicle on the parkway which if for cars only, said Kieran O'Leary, spokesman for the Westchester County Police.

He will also be fined for failure to obey a traffic control device, for driving past the "no trucks" signs, he added.
