State Legislators Visit Bedford Town Hall

A couple of state lawmakers paid a visit to the Bedford Town Board meeting Tuesday night.

State Assemblyman Robert Castelli honored two police officers,Sgt. David Novick and Detective Joe Comunale.

Novick received the 2010 Traffic Safety Enforcement Award while Comunale received the 2010 Police Office of the Year award. It was the second time Comunale, a former officer with New York City Police Department, has received the honor.

Castelli presented plaques to each officer.

“I feel honored to receive this award,” Comunale said. “I work in a great community and I grew up here. It feels great to receive this.“We don’t do this for the recognition, so it’s feels nice to be recognized for doing good job.”

State Senator Greg Ball (R,C- Patterson) also attended the meeting. He give legislative updates on the property tax cap, mandate relief, the state budget and movement within the Legislature to  possibly eliminate MTA payroll tax.

Ball admitted that the 2 percent property tax wasn’t perfect but he said it was way to force his colleagues to face the issues that are burdening tax payers in the state, such as unfunded mandates.

Ball’s visit to the Bedford town hall is part of a tour that will bring him through 22 towns in his senate district. Go here for a schedule of the town’s he plans to visit.
