“We want everyone to know that free resources are available and that signing up for a library card is easy,” said Mary Esbjornson, executive director of the library.

“Families may come into the library with proof of residence and immediately have access to thousands of books, DVDs, CD’s, video games, and other resources for learning and enjoyment.”

Bedford Hills Free Library cards can be used from computers at home, too. Parents and children can access e-books, download audio books and get online homework assistance.

Patrons can also browse through the collections of all the 38 member libraries in the Westchester Library System and order items to be delivered to their local branch.

Staff and volunteers from the Library will be signing up children and parents attending back-to-school events at at the West Patent Elementary School on Saturday, Sept. 19, as well as other community events.

The Preppy Turtle of Bedford Hills is sponsoring the program by offering a 10 percent discount to all Bedford Hills Free Library card holders during the month.

The Preppy Turtle, at 2 Depot Plaza, is a consignment boutique featuring better clothing, shoes, toys, books and gift items for infants to teens, as well as some upscale clothes, shoes and handbags for women.

“My girls and I have been going to the library for years, and we love the warm and welcoming atmosphere,” says Ann Hardy, owner of the store. “It’s a community treasure, and we hope our customers enjoy the library’s programs and services as much as we do.”
