Man Found Dead On Side Of Road In Bedford

BEDFORD, N.Y. -- A stretch of Route 22 in Bedford has reopened in both directions in Bedford after police activity following the discovery of a dead body led to its closure for approximately four hours.

A 47-year-old man from Poughkeepsie was found lying  on the southbound shoulder of the road on Route 22 near the intersection of Route 172 and Gordon Avenue just before dawn, Bedford Police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

There were no signs of major trauma to the body, according to police. The man's vehicle was found parked at a gas station north of where he was found, police said. There was no damage to the vehicle, according to police.
