North Salem resident Lisa Douglas, who demanded a primary election for Republican County Legislator candidacy in District 2, will be running in the September 13th primary against Bedfords Peter Michaelis. Initially, Michaelis expected to run for the office unopposed.
The winner of the Republican primary will then run against incumbent Peter Harckham (D-Katonah).
Michaelis, a former television news producer, has served on the Bedford Zoning Board and is chairman of the Bedford Historical Society.
Douglas is a former member of the North Salem Board of Education and founder of the Hudson Valley Patriots, a Tea Party group.
In other news, the North Salem Republican Town Committee has endorsed the following candidates for public office:
Supervisor: Warren Lucas
Town Council: Bruce Buchholtz and Gerard Ianance
Town Clerk: Veronica Howley
Justice: The Honorable John Johnston and The Honorable Ralph Mackin
District 2 County Legislator: Lisa Douglas
