BEDFORD, N.Y. -- Houlihan Lawrence realtor Karen Benvin Ransom was recently named the Volunteer of the Year by the Katonah Museum of Art.

Benvin Ransom, a realtor since 2000, has been a volunteer at the Museum for more than 30 years. She volunteered one day a week and frequently spent time there with her children. When her children went off to college, Benvin Ransom added additional hours as a volunteer.

“KMA played a huge part in their upbringing,’’ Benvin Ransom said.  "My daughter graduated with Honors with a degree in Art History from Goucher College and she has just interned for a year at The Walters. My son has brought the Arts to his Public Broadcast Station in Burlington, Vt.”

"She's always upbeat and cheerful,'' said Ellen Williams of the education department at the museum. "She has spent her time as a communicator and has become a true ambassador for the Museum in the community. And she always says yes, whether it's tabling at fairs, serving wine at openings or doing raffles. She and Marjie Kern raised $4,000 at last year's raffle."

The Katonan Museum of Art is accredited by the American Association of Museums. It originates 10 to 12 exhibitions annually, covering a broad range of art and humanities topics. From the beginning, the KMA was committed to presenting exceptional art from all cultures and time periods. The founders’ decision to be a non-collecting institution resulted in a dynamic and flexible exhibition program, which remains one of the most distinctive features of the KMA.

The museum offers lectures, films, workshops, concerts and other events for a general audience; and presents innovative and substantive programs for over 100 member schools.

Benvin Ransom said she enjoys her work with Museum. “I have loved every minute of it and have made many friends here,’’ she said. “We are so fortunate to have this in our backyard and I will continue to support it.”

"Karen is widely connected in town and she promotes us within her other favorite organizations,'' Williams said. "She brings them here."
