BEDFORD, N.Y. -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is accepting written comments about the proposed expedited cleanup for the Bedford Hills water tower site.
Environmental officials recently discovered traces of lead in the soil near the water tower on Beaver Dam Road in concentrations of up to 65,600 parts per million.
Because the lead was only found at shallow levels in the soil, officials said they do not believe it will impact groundwater.
Officials have been concerned with the presence of lead at the inactive site since 2005. The water tower was active from 1931 through 2007.
