Police identified Thomas Warren, 69, as the man who hung himself from the James Street Parking Garage . According to Lt. John White, Warren left a suicide note and also left a check for a funeral home in Tarrytown to pay for his funeral.

White said they are waiting to hear back from the funeral home to see if Warren spoke to them before his suicide. White said attempts to reach next of kin have been unsuccessful.

Warren was found hanging from the garage at about 3:30 p.m. White said took it about 30 minutes to bring him down and the fire department was called in for assistance.

White said public suicides are very unusual.

"Usually it's done very privately," White said. "I've responded to these before, but usually it's in a bedroom. This is a first for me."
