Pataki Says Son-In-Law 'Showing Progress' After Suffering Stroke

GARRISON, N.Y. -- Peekskill native and Garrison resident George Pataki said his son-in-law is showing progress after suffering a stroke on Tuesday, prompting Pataki to cancel presidential campaign events scheduled for New Hampshire this week.

Dr. David Levy, 30, who is married to Pataki's daughter Allison, is in the intensive care unit at a medical center in Chicago, Pataki's campaign said in a statement.

"Thank you for your continued prayers for my son-in-law David and our family," Pataki wrote on Twitter on Friday. "He's showing signs of progress but still has a long road ahead."

Levy and Allison Pataki were on a flight from Chicago to Seattle for a vacation before the birth of their first child, when Levy suffered a life-threatening stroke, Pataki's campaign office said. Their plane was diverted to Fargo, N.D., where he was in intensive care before being transported to Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

Levy had been in "excellent health," Pataki said in a statement Thursday, describing the stroke as "a shock to us all."
