New Castle's Sandra Lee Pays Overdue Bill

NEW CASTLE, N.Y. -- Food Network star Sandra Lee has paid an $800 overdue bill to a Putnam County company that removed snow from the roof of her $1.2 million home in February, a court clerk said Tuesday, June 17, according to LoHud.com

The Honey Do Men Gutters and Roofing Corp. of Mahopac sued Lee for $800 plus interest and claimed she paid only part of a $4,294 bill after being notified for payment three times, according to LoHud.com.

Lee had been scheduled to appear in Town Court on Thursday, June 12, but the matter was settled before the court date, which was then canceled, the clerk told LoHud.com.

Lee, who shares her home with her boyfriend, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is known for her “semihomemade” cooking technique, which involves prepackaged products and fresh foods.

In the lawsuit filed in Town Court, the Honey Do Men claimed Irma Martinez, a representative of Lee, had called the workers on Feb. 20 to remove snow from the roof of Lee’s home at 4 Bittersweet Lane, according to LoHud.com.

In recent weeks, LoHud.com Tax Watchdog David McKay Wilson reported that Lee had failed to obtain building permits for house remodeling and had likely avoided paying higher taxes because town officials were unaware of the changes, which could potentially affect the home’s value.

Following McKay’s reporting, a town assessor devised a tentative reassessment raising the home’s value by 29 percent. The estimate was based on an exterior inspection as the assessor was not allowed inside, according to LoHud.com. Cuomo later told Wilson he was not aware that the assessor had not been allowed inside, according to LoHud.com.

Lee’s remodeling job was featured on USA Today and Elle Décor magazine.
