BEDFORD, N.Y. – Nearly 700 customers were without power in Bedford Thursday morning following a Nor’easter that knocked out electricity to more homes throughout Westcheser and delayed Con Edison and New York State Energy and Gas’ restorations.

An estimated 367 out of 1,018 Con Edison customers in Bedford were without power at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, up from 257 on Wednesday morning. An estimated 320 out of 6,657 NYSEG customers were without power, down from 1,141 Wednesday morning.

Crews repairing overhead equipment from Hurricane Sandy outages from both utilities were delayed, unable to work safely in high winds.

Con Edison reported approximately 34,101 of its 348,198 Westchester customers out of service as of Thursday morning down from 36,734 Wednesday morning.

Crews were working to restore 67,000 customers in New York City and Westchester County when the nor-easter hit, knocking out power to 55,000 customers in both areas. Con Edison crews, mutual aid workers and contractors have restored service to about 957,000 customers from both storms. Crews have been responding to more than 100,000 downed wires and are working with emergency services personnel to open blocked roads.

NYSEG reported approximately 1,291 of its 32,529 Westchester customers out of service as of Thursday morning up from 1,141 Wednesday morning.

While the storm also delayed restorations temporarily for NYSEG, the utility’s power restoration team is continuing to restore service to customers in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess counties who lost service as a result of damage from Hurricane Sandy. Service has been restored to 73,232 of the 75,738 NYSEG customers in the three-county region.

Customers can report downed power lines, outages, and check service restoration status by computer or mobile device at www.conEd.com. They also can call 1-800-75-CONED (1-800-752-6633). Customers who report outages will be called by Con Edison with their estimated restoration times as they become available, according to the release.

NYSEG customers can go to the company’s website at www.nyseg.com or call 1.800.572.1131 for local estimated times of restoration.
