As part of its "MTK Cares" community outreach program, which launched in September, the tavern will host its First Annual All Star Rock Jam on Saturday, Nov. 24, at 9 p.m. Nonperishable foods, clothing and monetary donations will be collected from guests and turned over to the Community Center, located at 84 Bedford Road in Katonah.
Saturday's acts include Rich Kelly, Chris Fox and Dan Carillo, all return performers well-known in the Westchester music community. Each is waiving his fee and donating it to the cause. And the restaurant will donate 25 percent of proceeds from the evening to the center, which houses a food pantry and clothing bank for low-income residents. Over 20 years of operation, the center has garnered the support of 29 religious, civic and education organizations that serve as community partners.
"The Community Center of Northern Westchester is delighted to join forces with MTK Tavern during the Thanksgiving weekend in helping neighbors who are less fortunate," said Sherry Wolf, CCNW executive director. "We are grateful that MTK is collaborating with the center in supporting our efforts to provide essentials of living and take the edge off hunger in our community."
In addition to staple food and clothing items, the center is collecting coffee, juice, hot chocolate and cookie and cake mixes for holiday meals, as well as new warm sleepwear, robes, socks and slippers as gifts for children and infants as part of its holiday "Share the Warmth" drive.
MTK Tavern, which opened in April at 30 E. Main St. in the space formerly occupied by Katie Mac's, has previously partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester, the Hudson Valley Special Olympics and Big Brothers Big Sisters as part of its MTK Cares initiative.
MTK owner Jeffrey Rosen said he was thrilled to start a fundraiser program for local charities. “It is important to give back to the community, which is why I invite everyone to come out and support these monthly events," he said in a recent statement. "The more you enjoy the food, drinks, and entertainment at the tavern the more we give back to these groups.”
Coming up on Dec. 22, MTK will host musician Jessica Antonette in conjunction with a holiday toy drive for Toys for Tots, Rosen said.
