NEW YORK, N.Y. After a wake, funeral and burial, all of which took place on Kennedy turf, family and friends of Mary Richardson Kennedy, held their own memorial Monday night at the Standard Hotel in downtown Manhattan, which is owned by Kennedy friend Andre Balazs.
The estranged wife of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Mary Kennedy, 52, was found dead Wednesday at her home on 326 S. Bedford Road, having apparently hanged herself in outbuilding on the property. The Westchester County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that Kennedy died by asphyxiation by hanging.
According to the New York Post, only one of Richardson's six siblings attended Saturdays funeral at St. Patrick's Church in Bedford, which Robert Kennedy organized.
Upon exiting the hotel, Sharyn Mann, who co-founded the Food Allergy Initiative with Kennedy, described Mary in three words: Love, love, love." She described her as great advocate for children.
"Thats what Mary was," she said. "She loved too much."
Celebrity yoga instructor Rodney Yee and his wife Colleen Saidman were seen leaving the memorial, which lasted about two hours.
Peter Kaplan, former editor of the New York Observer, was also in the crowd of mourners leaving the hotel. "I loved her," he said, turning away from members of the press.
Mary Kennedys death has resulted in conflict between Robert F. Kennedy and the Richardsons. Her family took court action against her estranged husband on Thursday over the rights to handle her body.
Kennedy was awarded custody of the remains and Mary Kennedy was buried after Saturday's funeral at a cemetery in Hyannisport, Mass.
There were, however, some Kennedys at the memorial service: Kerry and Max Kennedy exited the hotel with their arms around each others' shoulders.
Kerry Kennedy, who was Mary Kennedys high school and college roommate before becoming her sister-in-law, said she and her family will continue to grieve in private.
