The article highlights the custom fabric banners printed for the centennial by Spoonflower. The banners showcase the avian artwork of naturalist and artist John James Audubon.
The fabrics portray birds of this region, including great blue heron, wild turkey, broad-winged hawk, red-tailed hawk, sharp-shinned hawk, osprey and great horned owl. Spoonflower has made the fabrics available to the public, and 10 percent of each purchase price will be donated to Bedford Audubon.
“It’s fun to look back at the event a year later, and we’re so thankful to Ms. Stewart for hosting the celebration, and for everyone that made the event a beautiful success,” says Janelle Robbins, executive director of Bedford Audubon. “And we’re grateful to be receiving a portion of the proceeds from the sale of the Audubon fabric. I hope Audubon’s artwork will not only inspire many projects but also a love for our natural world.” The event not only commemorated a century of conservation by Bedford Audubon but also honored Laura O’Donohue, founder and owner of Snow Hill Farm in North Salem, with the Henry Orr Conservationist Award.
The farm is certified organic by the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York and received a Bird Habitat Certification. Named in honor of the late Henry Orr, this award recognizes the conservation values not just of Bedford Audubon but also the values shared throughout our community. Al Caccese was honored with the Mary Welsh Parker Legacy Award. Caccese is the former executive director and vice president of Audubon N.Y., the state program for National Audubon.
