KENT, N.Y. -- An 18-year-old male from the Bronx was pronounced dead after being pulled from a lake, Kent Police announced.

The man was pronounced dead after being transported to Putnam Hospital Center, police added.

Police have decided not to release the man's name due to pending notification to his family. An update from police is planned for Wednesday.

The victim was previously identified as a 17 year old in an interview with Lake Carmel Fire Chief William Walters.

The person was pulled out of the lake while he was unconscious, Walters said. He was still unconcious when he was transported to the hospital, the chief added.

The fire department was dispatched after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, according to Walters. Mutual aid from neighboring fire departments, the chief added, included diving support from Mahopac Falls, along with boats from Mahopac Falls and Kent.

The lake is located off of Kentwood Drive. Police said it is known as Kentwood Lake.

Police added that a witness told officers there was a person swimming near a dock, which is about 150 feet from the shore. The swimmer went underwater and never came back to the surface, police said.

Fire and police personnel conducted a search for more than 20 before the Mahopac Falls dive team arrived, police added.

The dive team located the man and brought him to shore, police said, where EMS personnel were stationed.

Walters, who described the man as a "non-swimmer" said he was present as a guest and was with his father and other people. The chief added that he was trying to cool off and got disoriented.

Walters was not present during the initial response; David Churchill, an assistant chief, filled in.
