Listeria Concerns Prompt Papa John's Salad Recall

Papa John's Salad and Produce Inc. is recalling its Oriental Salad with Sesame Ginger Dressing due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The products in the voluntary recall contain sunflower kernels that are part of SunOpta's recent expanded recall. 

Listeria monocytogenes is a series of pathogenic bacteria that can cause the infection listeriosis, which can be serious or fatal in young children, frail or elderly people and individuals with weakened immune systems. 

Listeriosis can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women. 

Healthy individuals may experience high fever, nausea, abdominal pain, stiffness, diarrhea and severe headache. 

No illnesses have been reported to Papa John's Salads and Produce.
