Light Snow Will Give Way To Rain, Saturday Thaw In Bedford

WESTCHESTER COUNTY, N.Y. -- A rugged week of winter weather is delivering one final parting shot to Westchester on Friday before temperatures warm up and the January Thaw begins on Saturday.

Light snow, accumulating as much as 1 to 2 inches in parts of Westchester, fell early Friday morning. Another system produced a burst of snow late Friday morning, resulting in slippery driving conditions and numerous accidents in Westchester.

The wintry precipitation was expected to turn to rain by midday, according to the National Weather Service, but with temperatures slower to rise than expected, the changeover occurred a bit later.

The rest of the day Friday will be cloudy with a 40-percent chance of rain and a high between 37 and 40 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. The chance of rain increases to 50 percent after 9 p.m.

The outlook for Saturday calls for periods of rain, heavy at times in the afternoon, and highs near 60 degrees.

With temperatures rising dramatically, melting ice could cause urban flooding and possible river flooding as well as ice jam flooding along local rivers, according to the National Weather Service.

Sunday should be mostly sunny with a high between 46 and 48.
